Antecedentes científicos
Doctor en Tecnología de Polímeros (KTH Royal Institute of Technology, 2008) e Ingeniería Química (Universidad Politécnica de Valencia, 2008). Realizó un periodo postdoctoral en la University of Queensland (2009-2010) y en la University of Amsterdam (2010-2011) con una beca postdoctoral Knut y Alice Wallenberg. En 2011 se unió a la Escuela de Biotecnología del KTH Royal Institute of Technology como Investigador Senior, y desde 2015 es Profesor Asociado en Glicociencia en el Departamento de Química del KTH Royal Institute of Technology. Francisco dirige un grupo de investigación con 10 estudiantes de doctorado y postdoctorales en biotecnología de carbohidratos, centrado en la explotación sostenible de biomasa vegetal y fúngica mediante química sostenible y biocatálisis para aplicaciones en biomateriales y nutrición. Trabajamos con recursos lignocelulósicos forestales (dentro del Wallenberg Wood Science Center), así como con una gran diversidad de residuos de la industria agroalimentaria. Actualmente es Jefe de la División de Glicociencia, con responsabilidades administrativas sobre 30 investigadores.
Francisco ha publicado más de 65 artículos en revistas internacionales revisadas por pares y actualmente coordina diversos proyectos de investigación financiados por agencias públicas y privadas suecas, así como por el programa Horizonte 2020 de la UE.
Objetivos dentro de ACES
Francisco ha participado en ACES en la coordinación y organización de diferentes talleres y seminarios, con el objetivo de fortalecer los vínculos entre las comunidades científicas de Suecia y España. ACES tiene un potencial extraordinario para ser el punto de encuentro y brindar apoyo a los investigadores españoles en Suecia, así como para actuar como agente asesor que influya en el sistema científico en España hacia la excelencia, atrayendo al mejor talento.
Scientific Background
Ph.D. in Polymer Technology (KTH Royal Institute of Technology, 2008) and Chemical Engineering (Universidad Politécnica de Valencia, 2008). Postdoctoral period at the University of Queensland (2009-2010) and the University of Amsterdam (2010-2011) with a Knut and Alice Wallenberg Postdoctoral Scholarship. In 2011 he joined the School of Biotechnology at KTH Royal Institute of Technology as a Senior Researcher, and since 2015 he is Associate Professor in Glycoscience, at the Department of Chemistry, KTH Royal Institute of Technology. Francisco is leading a research group with 10 PhD students and postdoctoral researchers on carbohydrate biotechnology, focused on the sustainable exploitation of plant and fungal biomass using sustainable chemistry and biocatalysis for applications in biomaterials and nutrition. We work with forest lignocellulosic resources (within the Wallenberg Wood Science Center), as well as with a great diversity of residues from the agri-food industry. He is currently the Head of the Division of Glycoscience, with administrative responsibilities over 30 researchers.
Francisco has published over 65 articles in international peer reviewed journals and he is currently coordinating different research projects funded by Swedish public and private agencies, as well as the EU Horizon 2020 program.
Objectives within ACES
Francisco has been participating in ACES in the coordination and arrangement of different workshops and seminars, with the objective of strengthening the links between the Swedish and Spanish research communities. ACES has the extraordinary potential to be the meeting point and provide assistance for the Spanish researchers in Sweden, but also to be an advisory agent to influence the scientific system in Spain towards excellence attracting the best talent.
