El pasado jueves 24 de abril de 2025, ACES celebró con gran entusiasmo el inicio del ciclo de seminarios “Ciencia y Empresa”, con un evento titulado “Un Viaje Profesional Después de la Academia”. La cita tuvo lugar en el acogedor y moderno espacio de The Park, Forskaren.
Abrimos la jornada con unas palabras de bienvenida de Armando Cázares-Körner, Head of Community de The Park, quien nos presentó este nuevo y vibrante centro de innovación en el corazón de Estocolmo. A continuación, Xesús Abalo, presidente de ACES, compartió un resumen de las últimas actividades de la asociación y anunció las emocionantes iniciativas que se vienen. Por su parte, Antonio Bermejo, vocal por empresa de ACES y principal organizador del evento, nos introdujo al nuevo ciclo de seminarios y presentó a nuestra invitada especial.
Tuvimos el honor de contar con Susana Ayesa Álvarez, Directora de Farmacéutica y Biotecnología en Läkemedelsverket (la Agencia Sueca de Productos Médicos). Con gran cercanía y humildad, Susana compartió su trayectoria desde sus estudios en España hasta su llegada a Suecia en 1993, pasando por su experiencia en distintas empresas, su doctorado, y su actual rol en una institución clave para la salud pública.
Durante su charla, nos habló sobre los desafíos y oportunidades que conllean los inicios en la industria farmacéutica y biotecnológica. Subrayó la importancia de mantenerse curioso, abierto a nuevos aprendizajes y dispuesto a asumir retos. Uno de sus mensajes más inspiradores fue el significado de F.A.I.L.: First Attempt In Learning. También hizo hincapié en que la ciencia no solo se hace en la universidad, sino también en empresas y organismos públicos.
El público, mayoritariamente joven, agradeció profundamente su honestidad y energía. Finalizamos el encuentro con una cálida ronda de aplausos y una sesión de networking informal con comida y bebida, donde tuvimos la oportunidad de seguir conversando con Susana y otros asistentes.

“Science and Industry” Seminar Series I with Susana Ayesa Álvarez
This past Thursday, April 24th, 2025, ACES enthusiastically launched the first event in its new seminar series “Science and Industry”, with a talk titled “A Professional Journey After Academia.” The event took place in the welcoming and modern space of The Park, Forskaren.
We kicked off the day with a warm welcome from Armando Cázares-Körner, Head of Community at The Park, who introduced us to this vibrant innovation hub in the heart of Stockholm. Next, Xesús Abalo, president of ACES, gave an overview of the association’s recent activities and shared exciting upcoming initiatives. Antonio Bermejo, ACES Industry Representative and main event organiser, introduced the new seminar series and presented our special guest speaker.
We had the honour of hosting Susana Ayesa Álvarez, Director of Pharmaceuticals and Biotechnology at Läkemedelsverket (the Swedish Medical Products Agency). With great humility and openness, Susana shared her journey from studying in Spain to moving to Sweden in 1993, working in various companies, completing a PhD, and ultimately holding a leadership role at one of Sweden’s key public health institutions.
During her talk, she spoke about the challenges and opportunities of entering the pharmaceutical and biotech industry. She emphasised the importance of staying curious, open to learning, and ready to take on new challenges. One of her most inspiring messages was the meaning of F.A.I.L.: First Attempt In Learning. She also highlighted that science is not only done in universities, but also within private companies and public organisations.
The audience, composed mainly of young professionals and students, deeply appreciated her honesty and energy. We wrapped up the evening with a warm round of applause and an informal networking session over food and drinks, where attendees had the chance to chat further with Susana and each other.
