El pasado 4 de diciembre celebramos la Asamblea General 2025 de ACES en la Embajada de España en Estocolmo. El encuentro comenzó con la intervención del presidente de ACES, Xesús Abalo, quien presentó el amplio conjunto de actividades que la asociación ha organizado o en las que ha participado a lo largo de 2025. También adelantó algunos de los eventos previstos para 2026 e invitó a todos los socios a hacernos llegar sugerencias. Si deseáis proponer a alguna persona para impartir una charla o plantear iniciativas para futuras actividades, estaremos encantados de recibirlas.
Seguidamente, la tesorera de ACES, Leire Alonso Galicia, presentó el informe económico correspondiente al año, detallando los gastos e ingresos de la asociación. Gracias a una gestión equilibrada y responsable, fue posible llevar a cabo todas las actividades programadas, cerrando el ejercicio con un balance positivo. A continuación, el delegado de RAICEX, Francisco Vilaplana, ofreció un repaso sobre qué es RAICEX y las principales iniciativas que desarrolla esta red, destacando su papel en el apoyo y la conexión de la comunidad científica española en el exterior.
A continuación, se llevaron a cabo las votaciones para la Junta Directiva, que continuará con los mismos miembros e incorpora una nueva vocalía: Ingrid Campos se une como vocal por Estocolmo. Agradecemos sinceramente el apoyo mostrado. También se aprobó la nueva versión de los Estatutos, elaborada con especial cuidado durante los últimos meses.
Tras la parte formal de la Asamblea, dimos paso a la ponencia del día, enmarcada en nuestra serie dedicada a ciencia y gastronomía. En esta ocasión, tratamos la ciencia del pan. Miguel Ángel Cortés, investigador senior en KI, abrió la sesión con una introducción a la historia del pan y su relevancia cultural. Posteriormente, Francisco Vilaplana, catedrático en KTH, ofreció una perspectiva más química, explicando cómo el almidón y otros componentes del pan interactúan durante su elaboración. Fue una ponencia especialmente enriquecedora que despertó numerosas preguntas e interés por parte de la audiencia.
Para cerrar la jornada, celebramos el Concurso de Pinchos de ACES. La participación fue excepcional, con una gran variedad de propuestas tanto saladas como dulces. Las votaciones estuvieron muy reñidas debido al alto nivel de los pinchos presentados, pero finalmente el premio recayó en un miembro de ACES por sus magníficas torrijas.
Queremos agradecer a todas las personas que participaron, no solo en este evento sino también en las actividades de ACES a lo largo del año. Gracias por vuestro compromiso y entusiasmo. Esperamos seguir construyendo juntos una comunidad activa, diversa y enriquecedora.
ACES General Assembly 2025 – Summary
On December 4th, we held the ACES General Assembly 2025 at the Embassy of Spain in Stockholm. The meeting began with an address by the ACES president, Xesús Abalo, who presented the broad range of activities that the association has organized or taken part in throughout 2025. He also introduced some of the events planned for 2026 and invited all members to share their suggestions. If you would like to propose someone to give a talk or suggest ideas for future activities, we would be delighted to hear from you.
Next, the ACES treasurer, Leire Alonso Galicia, presented the financial report for the year, outlining the association’s income and expenses. Thanks to a balanced and responsible financial management, all planned activities could be carried out, and the year closed with a positive balance. This was followed by a presentation from the RAICEX delegate, Francisco Vilaplana, who provided an overview of what RAICEX is and highlighted the main initiatives of this network, emphasizing its role in supporting and connecting the Spanish scientific community abroad.
The session continued with the elections for the Board of Directors, which will remain composed of the same members and now includes a new position: Ingrid Campos joins as Board Member for Stockholm. We sincerely appreciate the support shown. The new version of the Statutes, prepared with great care over the past months, was also approved.
After the formal part of the Assembly, we moved on to the day’s presentation, part of our ongoing series on science and gastronomy. On this occasion, we explored the science of bread. Miguel Ángel Cortés, senior researcher at KI, opened the session with an introduction to the history of bread and its cultural significance. Afterwards, Francisco Vilaplana, professor at KTH, offered a more chemical perspective, explaining how starch and other components of bread interact during its preparation. It was an especially enriching presentation that prompted many questions and great interest from the audience.
To conclude the event, we held the ACES Pintxo Competition. Participation was exceptional, with a wide variety of both savory and sweet creations. The voting was extremely close due to the high quality of the entries, but in the end the prize went to an ACES member for their excellent torrijas.
